FLCC Runners Prepare for Cross Country Championships
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Finger Lakes Community College’s lineup for next weekend’s cross country championships includes seasoned competitors and one woman plucked from a college gym class after a coach saw her run.

Instructor Gets Statewide Award for Work in EMS
Canandaigua, N.Y. - Kenneth Kelly, general manger of Finger Lakes Ambulance in Clifton Springs and a Finger Lakes Community College adjunct faculty member for the last 11 years, received the EMS Educator of Excellence Award from the New York State EMS Council on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester. FLCC to Host National Cross-Country Championships
CANANDAIGUA, NY - Thirty community college cross-country teams will converge on Finger Lakes Community College for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7.
This is the fourth national cross-country championship FLCC has hosted in the past 17 years (FLCC also hosted in 1992, 1993, and 2005). Event location is determined by bid.
“We have one of the most scenic and challenging cross-country courses, and it is located right on campus. People like to come here. It’s beautiful,” said Bob Lowden, FLCC’s athletic director. Read the full post »
‘Dances With Wolves’ Indian Performers to Visit FLCC
Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Piscataway Indian Nation Singers and Dancers, famous for their internationally-recognized living history program and appearance in the movie “Dances With Wolves,” will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Finger Lakes Community College.
The group will give presentations at 1 and 5:30 p.m. in Stage 13 at the main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. The event is free and open to the public. Those attending the 1 p.m. performance should leave extra time for parking, due to on-campus construction. Read the full post »
Guest Lecturer to Address Diversity on ‘South Park’
Canandaigua, N.Y. - Matt Glowacki, a national speaker on disabilities, will give a talk on “Diversity According to Family Guy and South Park,” on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Finger Lakes Community College.
Glowacki will explore how TV shows operating on the fringes of societal acceptance, such as “The Family Guy” and “South Park,” often have a more developed, logical and inclusive view of society.

Dyslexia Expert to Give Free Talk at FLCC
Canandaigua, N.Y. - Lisa Anderson, founder of the New Beginnings Learning Center in Seneca Falls, will give a free talk on dyslexia, a condition that can make it hard to learn to read, on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Finger Lakes Community College.

FLCC to Host Export and Economic Forecasting Seminar
Canandaigua, N.Y. - Finger Lakes Community College will host a seminar on Basic Exporting and International Economic Forecast for 2010 on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Room B440 on the fourth floor of the college, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive.
The seminar is geared for regional firms working with international customers on a regular basis, managers who are interested in targeting the fastest-growing international markets, smaller companies considering expansion into overseas regions, and anyone interested in the import/export market. FLCC Honors Student Scholars
Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Foundation honored 104 student scholars at the 25th annual Widmer’s Scholarship Reception held Sept. 23 at the college.
The scholarships were granted to full- and part-time students who entered or returned to FLCC this fall or who transferred this semester to four-year colleges and universities. Students apply for and are selected based on criteria relating to major, grade point average and intended occupation. The awards ranged from $160 to $12,000 and totaled $83,000. Read the full post »
