Blues to Fill FLCC’s Honors House Nov. 6

Canandaigua, NY - As part of its Words & Music concert series, Finger Lakes Community College’s Honors House will feature a night of blues music with two solo acts, Steve Grills and Buford, Friday, Nov. 6.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Honors House at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Routes 5 and 20. It is free and open to the public.

Buford, an FLCC alumnus, has been a blues staple in the Western Finger Lakes/Rochester area for more than 25 years. Whether he’s playing solo or with his long-running band Smokin’ Section, Buford’s music can’t be pigeonholed. Rather, he prefers to call his songs “Bufordisms - eccentric little ditties that make you smile.” His influences include Slim Harpo, Bob Dylan, Howlin’ Wolf and Chuck Berry.

Steve Grills, who also attended FLCC, will have the Honors House audience tapping their feet and nodding their heads to the strong beat of his moody rhythms. His music carries the legacy of some of the greats of this genre, such as Robert Lockwood Jr., Earl Hooker and Freddie King. Steve recently recorded an album with pianist Ernest Lane that will be soon released soon.

Words & Music is an acoustic House Concert Series at the FLCC Honors House featuring performances by alumni and regional musicians. The series aims to support live, local music in an intimate space that inspires both performers and audiences toward deeper listening.

The concert is sponsored by FLCC’s Honors Studies, the Alumni Association and Student Corporation.
