Electronic Catalog Saves Printing 1.9 Million Pages
Canandaigua, N.Y. - As part of an effort to model sustainable practices, Finger Lakes Community College has ceased routine publication of thousands of copies of its annual catalog.
The catalog is now posted as a portable document file, or PDF, on the college’s Web site: www.flcc.edu/catalog.
Instead of 6,000 copies at 326 pages each, only 66 will be printed for times when a computer is not handy. That saves 1,934,484 pages.
The switch to an electronic catalog is in line with FLCC’s Strategic Plan, which calls for the college to model and teach environmentally sustainable practices. This mission is also carried out in a wide array of programs, including regular media appearances and the college’s high school Go Green Student of the Month program.
The college is also scheduled to break ground in spring 2010 on a building expansion that has been designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, Gold architectural standards.
