Visiting Poet to Speak on Writing about Disability

Canandaigua, N.Y. - Duane Esposito, a published poet who teaches literature and creative writing at Nassau Community College, will give a talk on writing and self-discovery Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Finger Lakes Community College.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Honors House at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Routes 5 and 20. It is free and open to the public. Read more

FLCC Series Explores Dyslexia

Canandaigua, N.Y. - Finger Lakes Community College will air three films about the learning disorder dyslexia and host an expert speaker on the topic during October. The events, all free and open to the public, will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Stage 13 on the second floor of the main campus at 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. Read more

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Bill Kauffman, author of “Dispatches from the Muckdog Gazette,” will give a free talk on cherishing and defending hometowns at Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Read more

FLCC Among Teams to Compete at Cumming Nature Center

SOUTH BRISTOL - At least 18 teams from across New York will meet Sunday, Oct. 4, at Cumming Nature Center in South Bristol to compete in a woodsmen competition that features such events as pole climbing, axe throwing and wood-splitting.

The Twelfth Annual Fall Festival Woodsmen’s Competition will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more

FLCC to Host Free Lecture on Women Surrealists

Susan Aberth, assistant professor of Art History at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., will give a free lecture titled “Women Surrealists in Mexico” on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Finger Lakes Community College.

The lecture is free and will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Stage 13 on the second floor of the college’s main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. Read more

FLCC Tour Gives Rare Access to Green Homes, Businesses

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 15, for a bus tour that offers participants a rare look at how local businesses and homeowners have found ways to live and work sustainably.

Finger Lakes Community College has organized the all-day “Go Green” tour for Saturday, Oct. 10, the peak of the fall foliage season. Read more

Mambo Kings to Perform in Free Concert at FLCC

Rochester’s foremost Latin jazz ensemble, Mambo Kings, will give a concert Thursday, Sept. 24, at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. The event is free and open to the public. Read more

FLCC to Build Labs at Wayne County Campus Center

Finger Lakes Community College has received a $238,000 federal grant to buy and install lab equipment at its Wayne County Campus Center at 1100 Technology Parkway. Read more

FLCC Exhibits Work by Photography Pioneer Jeannette Klute

An exhibit celebrating the artistry of the late Jeannette Klute, a pioneer in the field of color photography, opens Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 of Finger Lakes Community College. Read more

FLCC to Host Basketball Coaches’ Clinic

Finger Lakes Community College Men’s Basketball program will host its 7th annual coach’s clinic on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s speakers include Dave Pasiak, Onondaga Community College; John Nally, Pittsford Sutherland High School; John Boon, Bishop Kearney High School; Jeff Panek, Geneva High School; and FLCC Head Coach Richard Jones.

Topics covered include: Game preparation, changing defenses, man-to-man offense, playing without size, and man-to-man defense. Speakers will use FLCC players to demonstrate.
