FLCC Receives Significant Donation in Support of Sustainability from New Energy Works and Pioneer Millworks
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2009) – A barn built on Finger Lakes Community College property more than 100 years ago has been partially resurrected to promote the College’s sustainability efforts. Reclaimed beech and maple wood from the 1800s-barn is now a centerpiece display case to promote sustainability initiatives, courtesy of two Farmington companies that specialize in environmentally friendly wood building projects. The display case was designed, built, and donated by New Energy Works. The materials for the display case were donated by New Energy Works’ sister company, Pioneer Millworks. Read more
FLCC Received Second Donation of Bobcat Equipment Use from D.J.M. Equipment
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2009) – For the second year in a row, Finger Lakes Community College has received a donation of one-month classroom usage of a Bobcat skid-steer loader from D.J.M. Equipment/ Bobcat of the Finger Lakes, 7216 Palmyra Rd., Fairport. The machine has been delivered to FLCC’s Canandaigua Campus and is being used by students in the Landscape Construction and Maintenance course (HRT 202) this spring. Read more
FLCC Faculty Members Receive Promotions
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2009) – Finger Lakes Community College recently announced the promotion of 12 faculty members.
Timothy Biehler was promoted to associate professor of mathematics; Mary Coriale to associate professor of nursing; April Devaux to associate professor of computing sciences; Bryan Ingham to assistant professor of mathematics; Alton Jowers to assistant professor of English; David McGuire to associate professor of music; Melissa Miller to assistant professor of biology; Sarah Morgan to assistant professor of art; Barron Naegel to assistant professor of art; Leonard Ortenzi to assistant professor of physics; Kelli Prior, Ph.D. to associate professor of biology; and Robert Wink, Ph.D. to associate professor of environmental conservation and horticulture. FLCC Students Raise over $1,300 for Special Olympics New York
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2009) – On Sunday, Feb. 8, a group of Finger Lakes Community College students and staff traveled to Charlotte Beach to take the Polar Plunge. The FLCC team raised over $1,300 in pledges to benefit Special Olympics New York. Read more
FLCC Global Awareness Program Presents: “Canandaigua, Ontario County and the Underground Railroad”
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2009) – Ontario County Historian and FLCC Adjunct Instructor of History, Preston Pierce will discuss the history of the underground railroad as it operated in the Canandaigua area. This presentation, “Canandaigua, Ontario County and the Underground Railroad,” is sponsored by the FLCC Global Awareness Program and is part of the College’s celebration of Black History Month. The presentation will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 12:45-2 p.m. in room B-403 on the fourth floor of the FLCC Canandaigua Campus, 4355 Lakeshore Drive. Read more
FLCC Presents “A.E. Ted Aub: Sculpture Recon-Figured”
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2009) – The Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 will be holding an exhibition of recent sculpture by Ted Aub, professor of art at Hobart and William Smith Colleges from Feb. 19 through March 20, 2009.
Located on the first floor of the Canandaigua campus, 4355 Lakeshore Drive, the gallery will host an opening and informal discussion with the artist on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 1-3 p.m., which is free and open to the public. A reception will also be held on Friday, Feb. 20 from 5-7 p.m. Read more
FLCC Hosts SUNY Financial Aid Day
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2009) – Finger Lakes Community College will host a SUNY financial aid day at the College’s Canandaigua campus on Saturday, Feb. 21. SUNY’s Statewide Student Financial Aid Days are free hands-on workshops open to all families and community members who are considering attending college and applying for financial aid for the fall 2009 semester. At the FLCC program, financial aid counselors will assist participants in filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on line. Read more
FLCC Honors House Presents Words & Music Acoustic House Concert Series
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 5, 2009) – The Finger Lakes Community College Honors House presents the Words & Music acoustic house concert series, featuring monthly performances by talented alumni and regional musicians. The first performance of this series will feature Scott Topel and Ben Morey on Friday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. at the FLCC Honors House, 4340 Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua. FLCC Students and Habitat for Humanity to Host Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
