FLCC Receives Final Approval to Offer Revised Business Program
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Aug. 25, 2006) - The New York State Department of Education recently approved Finger Lakes Community College to modify the current associate in applied science degree program in retail business management to the associate in applied science degree program in marketing. The College is currently accepting applications for this new marketing degree program for the fall 2006 semester.
The associate in applied science degree in marketing is designed to provide students with a broad business background. Students will take courses in subjects such as accounting, small business management, marketing, public speaking, business communications, advertising, and business law. Students have the option to complete some of the courses in the evening or online. Students may also opt to enroll in a six-credit business internship field experience. The program prepares graduates for marketing, sales, customer service, and management positions at both small local businesses and large national chains. Students may choose to start their own business.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, opportunities for employment in marketing related fields, such as advertising, promotions, public relations, and sales management, are expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. These opportunities are spurred by intense domestic and global competition in products and services offered to consumers. To succeed in a career in the field of marketing, students need to understand the relationship between the business world and the changing demographics of the workforce and consumers.
Graduates of the program may find employment as marketing assistants, sales representatives, customer service representatives, direct marketers, retail merchandisers, and public relations assistants, or become small business owners. Starting salaries range from lower-$20,000 to mid-$30,000 depending on the position and size of the company, according to Edward FitzPatrick, associate professor of business administration.
For more information about the marketing degree program visit www.flcc.edu/marketing or contact the FLCC Admissions Office at admissions@flcc.edu or at (585)394-FLCC, ext. 7278.
