Finger Lakes Community College Holds Veterans Orientation

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Aug. 28, 2008) – Finger Lakes Community College will hold two orientation sessions for Veterans enrolling at the College, prospective students and their families. The sessions will take place Sept. 3 and Sept. 4.

“We understand that the transition to student life can be challenging,” says Corrine Canough, Director of Advisement and Student Development. “We are grateful for our student Veterans’ service to our country, and we are here to provide the services they need to successfully navigate this transition.”

Such services include:
• Financial information, including GI Bill information, federal work study programs, Veteran scholarship information and home loan information for Veterans (presented by Veteran’s Benefits Administration)
• Healthcare information for Veterans (presented by Canandaigua VA Veteran Service Center)
• Information about Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
• Vocational Rehabilitation (presented by Canandaigua VA Vocational Rehabilitation program)

FLCC Admissions Hosts Spring Visitation Days

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (March 13, 2008) – High school juniors and seniors can learn more about college life and academic programs of study at Finger Lakes Community College during the Campus Visitation Days, which will be held on April 10 and April 22.

The College will offer information about admissions, financial aid, scholarships, honors studies, transfer and career programs, and student activities on campus. High school students will have the opportunity to tour the campus and meet with professors in their academic fields of interest. Also, participants can visit the Finger Lakes College Suites, new apartment-style student housing just a short walk from the main academic building.

Advance reservations are required one week prior to the date of choice and may be made online at www.flcc.edu/admissions (select Upcoming Events) or by contacting the Office of Admissions at (585) 394-FLCC, ext. 7278. Further details about the events will be mailed to all program registrants.

FLCC Announces Fall 2007 Semester Registration

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Aug. 2, 2007) – Finger Lakes Community College announces walk-in registration for students enrolling on a part-time, non-matriculated basis for the fall 2007 semester. Fall courses begin Sept. 4, and registration will be held at the following times and locations:
In Canandaigua: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., FLCC Registrar’s Office, 4355 Lakeshore Drive.
In Geneva: Tuesday, Aug. 21, Registration: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., FLCC Geneva Campus Center, 63 Pulteney St., (315) 789-6701.
In Newark: Wednesday, Aug. 22, Registration: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., FLCC Wayne County Campus Center, 1100 Technology Pkwy, Newark, (315) 331-9098.

Freshman English (ENG 101) and foreign language courses require placement testing prior to registration. Testing for ENG 101 is held at the Canandaigua campus, the Geneva Campus Center, and the Wayne County Campus Center. Students registering for one to 11 credit hours (as part-time students) may register during walk-in registration or by mail using the downloadable form on the FLCC Web site, located at www.flcc.edu/fall. Full-time students (those who are enrolling in 12 credit hours or more) are not eligible to register by mail and must register in person. Students born on or after January 1, 1957, and registering for six or more credit hours must provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella in order to attend classes. Additionally, New York state requires that all students enrolled in six or more credits (except Gemini students) receive information on meningococcal meningitis disease and complete a meningitis response form. When registering, Ontario County residents must present identification with signature, and non-Ontario County residents must obtain a Certificate of Residence from their county treasurer.

FLCC to Host Campus Visit for Adults on June 12

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (May 15, 2007) – Finger Lakes Community College’s Campus Visit for Adults will be held at the College’s Canandaigua campus on June 12, 2007, from 4-6:30 p.m. Prospective adult students will have the opportunity to learn more about balancing school with a busy schedule, completing a degree that was started years ago, and gaining workplace skills for immediate employment. Additionally, attendees will be able to learn about FLCC’s areas of study, part-time programs, online options, and financial aid. Attendees also can find out how their previously-earned college credit can fit into a Finger Lakes Community College degree.

Information tables will be available from 4-6:30 p.m., a “Where to Start” session will begin at 4:45 p.m., and a “Financial Aid” session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are welcome anytime throughout the event, and reservations can be made online at www.flcc.edu/admissions or by phone at (585) 394-FLCC, ext. 7278.

FLCC Announces Summer Session Registration

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (April 24, 2007) – Registration for Summer Session credit courses at Finger Lakes Community College is currently underway at the Registrar’s Office, Canandaigua Campus, 4355 Lakeshore Drive.

This summer FLCC is offering a wide range of day and evening credit courses during summer sessions. New courses start all the time with classes starting in May, June, July, and August. For a complete schedule, visit www.flcc.edu/summer.

Students can register by mail or in-person. A mail-in registration form is available at www.flcc.edu/summer. In-person registration is held at the Registrar’s Office. Classes fill up quickly; students are encouraged to register early.

FLCC Hosts Information Technology Career Night for Adult Learners

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (April 5, 2007) – Have you thought about a career in computers but don’t know how to get started? Take the first step toward a degree or certificate program in computers by attending an Information Technology Career Night at Finger Lakes Community College. This event will take place at the FLCC Canandaigua campus, 4355 Lakeshore Drive, on Thursday, May 3, at 6 p.m. The workshop is free and open to the public, but advance reservations are requested by April 30.

FLCC’s Information Technology Career Night will provide key information for adults looking for exciting opportunities in the computer industry. Workshop participants will learn about FLCC’s degree programs in information systems, information technology, and computer science; certificate programs in applied computer applications and information security, as well as the pending e-commerce degree program. They will see the College computer facilities, which house up-to-date software and peripherals tailored to the needs of the classes.

In addition, participants will meet FLCC computing sciences faculty, who will discuss the College’s high placement rate for graduates of computer-related programs who actively seek employment, and FLCC administrative staff, who will provide information about the admissions and financial aid processes, academic support services, and career counseling. Additionally, participants will be able to tour the FLCC computer labs.

The College will offer information about admissions, financial aid, transfer and career programs, and student activities on campus. High school students will have the opportunity to tour the campus and meet with professors in their academic fields of interest.

The 2007 Spring Visitation Day events will be held the mornings of Tuesday, April 17, 2007, and Friday, April 27, 2007. A session for students who are undecided about their college major will also take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, and will focus on career exploration and decision making.

FLCC To Host Future Student Information Events

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2007) – Finger Lakes Community College’s Future Student Information Events will be held at the Geneva Campus Center at 6:00 p.m. on March 28, 2007, and at the Wayne County Campus Center at 6:00 p.m. on April 3, 2007. Prospective students will have the opportunity to learn more about the enrollment process, financial aid, support services, and the ADVANCE Fast part-time program for busy adults. Additionally, attendees will be able to learn about the program of their choice and online learning. Information about the various degree and certificate programs will also be available.
