Public can view archeological dig Thursday
Canandaigua, N.Y. (August 3, 2009) – A Finger Lakes Community College team unearthing the remains of an early 19th century blacksmith shop will invite the public to see what they’ve uncovered during an open house Thursday.
Six FLCC Employees Receive SUNY Chancellor’s Awards
Canandaigua, N.Y. (June 26, 2009) - Six Finger Lakes Community College faculty and staff members recently were honored with the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence for 2009. This recognition is considered the highest honor award presented by the SUNY system. The recipients were recognized at FLCC’s Annual Employee Recognition Program and at the College’s 41st Annual Commencement Ceremonies.
FLCC Bridge Program Offers Hospitality Certification
Canandaigua, N.Y. (June 24, 2009) – The Finger Lakes Community College Bridge Program will offer the START (Skills Tasks and Results Training) program for hospitality industry certification. The nationally recognized training program, which is endorsed by the American Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Institute www.ahlei.org and the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association www.nyshta.org, will prepare students for twelve major line-level positions in the hospitality industry including guest services, food and beverage, and housekeeping jobs for hotels, clubs, cruise lines, wineries, convention centers, spas, and recreational facilities. The training prepares students to test for an industry recognized certification and offers additional certification opportunities. The training includes a 96 hour internship component at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront hotel and 96 hours of classroom training.
FLCC Announces Spring 2009 Dean’s List

FLCC Announces Summer Hybrid Course Offerings in Geneva
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (April 2, 2009) – For the first time, Finger Lakes Community College will offer courses in a hybrid format this summer. Hybrid courses are a combination of online learning and face-to-face classes. FLCC will offer seven hybrid courses this summer, focused on core liberal arts subject areas. These courses will be offered online through the SUNY Learning Network in addition to meeting at the Geneva campus center on five evenings between May 26 and July 30. Read more

FLCC Announces Honors Courses for the Spring 2009 Semester
Canandaigua, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2008) – Three honors seminars will be offered at Finger Lakes Community College during the Spring 2009 semester (Jan. 26 – May 15). Both classes are three-credit honors courses and are open to all FLCC students.
“Honors Seminar Topic I: Perspectives on Tolkien” (HON 100-90) will be offered on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:20 p.m. in the Honors House and will be led by Assistant Professor of English Trista Merrill and Assistant Professor of Computing Sciences Larry Dugan. This course will critically examine the lasting influence and power of the Lord of the Rings saga in its different media. Students will read the novels, view the films, and play the multiplayer online game in order to explore how different media handle the same material. Students will discuss such issues as character and plot development, storytelling styles, cultural and historical contexts, benefits and limitations of various media, identity and role-playing games, and the role of audience in storytelling. Placing the three media into their socio-cultural contexts will allow us to explore such issues as the role of storyteller, the importance of the visual, and the role of ‘game’ in today’s society.
